Our Mission...
MCADSV is a statewide
membership organization whose members represent a network of over 70
domestic and sexual violence programs and over 200 allied organizations
and individuals. We have provided leadership as the statewide voice
for survivors of domestic and sexual violence and the programs that serve
them since 1978.
MCADSV is dedicated to the
empowerment of all the state's survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
Our mission is to develop and promote efforts aimed at the elimination of
all domestic and sexual violence in Michigan.
Our Goals...
Ending domestic and sexual
violence against all survivors requires social change that promotes
equality through individual, institutional and cultural changes. To
this end MCADSV will:
- Provide statewide leadership
on public policy issues affecting survivors and the programs that serve
them.
- Advocate for the
availability and accessibility of high quality, culturally competent
services.
- Strengthen service provider
programs.
- Be accountable to survivors.
- Encourage the leadership of
women.
Program Activities...
MCADSV program activities
include providing leadership, technical assistance, training and resources
throughout Michigan to benefit domestic and sexual violence survivors.
These activities include:
- Providing comprehensive
issue-based training and technical assistance to advocates, allied
professionals and local and state organizations to improve the delivery
of services to domestic and sexual violence survivors.

Our Member Programs...
The MCADSV network of programs
provides a wide range of essential services free of charge to all victims
of domestic and sexual violence. These services include:
- 24-hour crisis intervention
hotlines
- Counseling and support
groups
- Outreach and public
education
- Legal advocacy/court
accompaniment
- Forensic nurse examiner
programs
- Emergency shelter
- Children's programming
In 2000, the MCADSV statewide
network of programs provided emergency shelter services and crisis
counseling to 13, 891 survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence, and
responded to 61,309 hotline calls from individuals seeking support.
What's New at MCADSV...
A Vision for Prevention:
Key Issues and Statewide Recommendations for the Primary Prevention of
Violence Against Women in Michigan
Although great strides have been made to improve
the response to violence against women in Michigan, the rates of abuse
experienced by women and their children remain quite high. In
response to this, a statewide planning group has developed recommendations
for the primary prevention of violence against women in Michigan.
