NEW! Intimate
Partner Violence in Michigan
The occurrence of intimate partner violence (IPV) is typically underestimated
due to limited data and barriers to reporting. Estimates of the incidence and
prevalence vary widely depending on the data source. Few data are available to
monitor IPV, and those that exist are of questionable validity and reliability.
To begin to address these deficiencies, the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) funded IPV surveillance activities in several states, including
Michigan, beginning in 1999. Results are presented from multiple surveillance
activities coordinated by the Michigan Department of Community Health. Violence Against Women in Michigan
