MCADSV Releases Media Toolkits It is our pleasure to present Reporting Sexual Assault: A Guide for Journalists, and the companion guide, Working with the Media: A Toolkit for Service Providers. Both guides are a result of more than a year of collaboration between state agencies, journalists, and professionals in the field of sexual assault. These new toolkits were developed through the efforts of the Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence (MCADSV) Media Workgroup. In the fall of 2002, MCADSV received funding from the Michigan Department of Community Health, through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to develop a statewide plan for preventing violence against women in Michigan. In implementing recommendations of the prevention plan, the MCADSV Media Workgroup was formed in 2003. Both guides are designed to assist journalists in accurately and fairly covering incidents of sexual assault in their communities and encourage advocates to cultivate positive media relationships. With news media serving as a primary source of information for most adults in the United States, journalists and advocates are in a unique position to frame the public discussion on sexual assault. MCADSV and its workgroup members hope that these products will be both useful and informative, and we thank you for utilizing and sharing this resource. For more information on the project, please contact Special Projects Manager, Tammy Lemmer at tlemmer@mcadsv.org.
